Cyclones edge Scrappers, 2-1

Mahoning Valley has dropped four straight games.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Jose De La Torre struck out Stephen Douglas with the tying run on third base, earning his first save of the season, as the Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 2-1, in a New York-Penn League game at KeySpan Park Wednesday night.
The loss was the fourth in a row for the Scrappers (18-17), who have scored just six runs in that span.
Mahoning Valley lost 4-1 to the Cyclones Tuesday night.
Ivan Naccarata, who homered in Tuesday's series opener, singled and scored the Cyclones' first run in the fourth inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on a single by Jeremy Hambrice.
Key triple
In the fifth, Dustin Martin's triple sent home Joe Schemmel, who was hit by a pitch, and chased Scrappers' starter Erik Stiller.
Mahoning Valley was held scoreless for eight innings by Cyclones starter Eric Brown (2-0) and reliever Rip Warren.
In the ninth, De La Torre walked leadoff batter Jared Goedert. After Matthew McBride struck out, Jason Denham doubled to right, putting the tying runs in scoring position.
But De La Torre got Dustin Realini to hit into a sacrifice fly, then struck out Douglas with Denham at third.
Denham had two hits for the Scrappers, as did Evandy De Leon. The team's leading hitter, Andrew Lytle, went 0-for-4.
The teams play the finale of their three-game series tonight at 7. The Scrappers then head to Batavia for three-game weekend series.
