Girl reported missing
SHARON --Sharon police are asking Youngstown residents to be on the lookout for a 17-year-old Sharon girl who was reported missing more than three weeks ago. According to Sharon police, Monya Short, 17, was last seen June 29 in Sharon wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, about 120 pounds, has brown eyes and brown hair pulled into a pony tail. Police say the girl's mother believes she may be on Youngstown's South Side. Anyone with information as to her whereabouts is asked to call Sharon Police Department at (724) 983-3210.
Guilty plea entered
LISBON -- Dario D. Valentini, 25, of Runnemede Drive, Boardman, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of robbery and drug possession. Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge C. Ashley Pike set sentencing for 1:15 p.m. Oct. 2. Valentini was indicted after he grabbed cash with both hands from a cashier's drawer at Aldi's, 2459 E. State St., Salem, around 2:55 p.m. April 22. He pushed a clerk and another person while trying to escape. Authorities said they found heroin in Valentini's pants pocket when they arrested him.
Hydrants to be flushed
LORDSTOWN -- The village will be flushing fire hydrants beginning Friday through August. Customers may notice a periodic discoloration or minor change in the odor of the water, which will dissipate quickly as the water settles in the lines. The water is safe to drink and use even if any of these occur, except for washing clothes the day of the occurrence to prevent staining. Road closing for repairs
WARREN -- Reeves Road Northeast, between Genesee Avenue and North Road, will be closed to traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday for a storm sewer repair. The repair is scheduled for Thursday only. The closure will be 100 feet west of Coventry Drive on Reeves Road. The suggested detour for westbound traffic is North Road to Atlantic Street, Atlantic Street to Genesee Avenue and Genesee to Reeves. The detour would run in the reverse order for eastbound traffic.
Car crosses center line
GREENFORD -- Denette Benedict, 23, of Jennings Avenue, Salem, was cited for driving left of center after a crash around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 165 at Washingtonville Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield post. Benedict, traveling westbound on state Route 165, drove left of center and struck two vehicles traveling eastbound, the patrol said. No serious injuries were reported.
Man shot in chest
YOUNGSTOWN -- Daniel Harris, 27, of West Judson Avenue was in fair condition Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Health Center, recovering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Police said Harris was shot around 7 p.m. Monday in the Westlake Terrace Homes area off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. He told police he didn't see who fired.
Attempted car theft
AUSTINTOWN -- A woman was accosted in the parking lot at Great Cuts USA on Mahoning Avenue by a man who tried to steal her car. The 30-year-old Youngstown woman told township police that she was in the parking lot cleaning out her car Monday at 8:40 a.m. when a man came up behind her and poked her in the back. She said he told her to give him her car keys or he would kill her. She told him she didn't have the keys, and he walked away, she told police.
Computers stolen
AUSTINTOWN -- Someone broke into Davis Elementary School on Maple Drive and stole computer equipment, township police report. An employee reported to police that over the weekend, a classroom window was pried open and unlocked. Three new computer towers and a keyboard were stolen.
