CASH How it's made

After a paper note is designed, an artist hand-engraves a piece of soft steel. More than 65 steps are required to produce paper currency.
Currency paper is 75 percent cotton, 25 percent linen.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produces 35 million notes a day with a face value of about $635 million.
95 percent of the notes printed each year replace notes already in circulation; 45 percent of those are $1 bills.
