Caleb Meyer fires 4-hit shutout
YOUNGSTOWN -- Caleb Meyer allowed only four hits as he pitched a shutout, leading Bud's/DiCioccio to a 5-0 victory over Metros in the Youngstown Class AA League playoffs at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Meyer improved his record to 4-1. Rick Gozur hit a three-run home run for Bud's in the sixth inning. He also hit a single.
Bud's (26-2) will now meet Roth or O'Donalds for the league championship.
Boardman 13s
HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- The Boardman PONY 13-year-old all stars defeated Hagerstown, 5-4, in a loser's bracket Zone game Tuesday.
Behind 4-3 in the seventh inning. Alex Neapolitan singled and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Danny Dougherty's bunt single sent Neapolitan to third and he raced home on a passed ball, with Dougherty going to second.
Dougherty moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the winning run on a passed ball.
Nat Lukach hit a pair or singles for Boardman. Carmen Tarantino worked two innings. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
On Monday, Boardman lost, 15-5, to New Bedford, Mass., in a second round game.
Tarantino hit a triple and drove in two runs for Boardman.
Babe Ruth 14-15s
STRUTHERS -- The 14-year-old state champion Babe Ruth All-Star squad will tune up for its regional tournament game against Illinois at Jasper, Ind., on Friday at 12:30 p.m., when it scrimmages the 15-year old state champion Babe Ruth All-Stars today at 6:30 p.m. at Cene Park. The 15-year-old All-Stars will go against Illinois Friday at 11 a.m.
