Bond set for man charged in slew of crimes

CAMPBELL -- Benjamin B. Chaibi, 20, of Devitt Avenue, is being held in Mahoning County jail in lieu of $13,500 bond stemming from his arrest Monday, during which he damaged a cruiser, threatened to kill a police officer and himself, and damaged the Campbell jail.
Chaibi was arraigned Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court on charges of aggravated menacing, vandalism of public property, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, domestic violence and driving under suspension. His pretrial and preliminary hearings are scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 3, a court official said.
Chaibi was arrested around 10 a.m. Monday when police responded to a call about a man assaulting a woman in front of a Tenney Avenue home across from the police station. Chaibi was placed in the rear seat of a cruiser, where he tried to kick out a window. He was taken to Campbell jail, where he threatened to shoot a policeman. While at the Campbell jail, he plugged a shower drain, causing flooding, and damaged a surveillance camera, police said. He was then taken to the county jail.
