XMASSILLON -- St. Mary Cathedral was the setting at 2:30 p.m. June 17 as Tara Winnett and Drew Bates were united in marriage.
Parents of the bride are William and Joetta Winnett of Massillon, and the groom's parents are John and Sandi Bates, 11830 Western Reserve Road, Ellsworth.
The bride and groom accepted congratulations during a reception held in their honor at Brookside Country Club in Canton. Afterward they left on a wedding trip to the Bahamas.
Crystals and pearls enhanced the bodice of the bride's strapless silk gown, and the skirt was accented with ruching and flowed into a cathedral train. She held a bouquet of off-white roses.
The honor attendant was Amy Bush, and the bridesmaids were Audra and Stephanie VanHoose and Lori Paxos, cousins of the bride, and Emily and Racheal Bates, sisters of the groom. They wore cameo gowns.
The duties of best man were performed by Rich Mauch, and serving as groomsmen were Jay Tomasic, Chris Hines, Jason Young, Wes Truitt and the bride's brother, Phillip Winnett.
The couple live in Canton.
The bride graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance with a bachelor's degree in education. She is a music specialist with Coventry Local Schools in the Canton area.
The groom, a sales representative with Penske Trucking Co. in Akron, graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in business.
