FIFTY YEARS AGO: Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, one of the most prominent Roman Catholic prelates in U.S. history, drew 20,000 people to an outdoor Mass at St. Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Campbell July 22, 1956. In the top photo, seminarians led the procession to the altar, followed by a color guard of Catholic War Veterans. In the photo at right, Bishop Sheen, wearing the vestments of a Byzantine prelate, accepts a key to the city from Campbell Mayor Michael J. Kovach. Over his right shoulder is Youngstown Bishop Emmet M. Walsh. Sheen was the host of a popular 1950s television show, "Life is Worth Living."
