Eagle Scout Award earned
Mark E. Hahn recently received his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouting's highest achievement, at a court of honor ceremony in St. Michael Church, Canfield.
Mark, son of Edward and Karen Hahn of Boardman, has been in scouting since 1995. He is a member of Greater Western Reserve Council Troop 115. His Scoutmaster is Edward Hahn, and Assistant Scoutmaster is Robert McKinney.
He has earned 30 merit badges and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 2002. His troop positions have been senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, scribe and order of the arrow representative. He was elected Scout of the Year in 2003 by the troop committee. He has also received his Ad Altari Dei religious award, BSA Lifeguard Certification and Gettysburg Historical Patch.
Mark attended Tinnerman Canoe Base at Ontario, Canada, in 2003 and the 2004 National Jamboree at A.P. Hill, Virginia.
For his Eagle service project, he built two trophy cases for St. Michael. A senior at Canfield High School, he is a member of high school soccer team and the Phoenix Soccer Club.
Eagle Scout Award earned
Joshua M. Palmer, 16, son of John and Jenny Palmer of Canfield, received his Eagle Scout Award at a court of honor ceremony at Our Lady of Lebanon National Shrine in North Jackson.
Joshua is a member of the Greater Western Reserve Council Troop 85. His Scoutmaster is Fred Piersol.
Joshua began scouting as a Tiger Cub with Cub Scout Pack 83 in 1996. In 2001, he earned his Arrow of Light and joined Troop 85. He served as the troop's bugler, assistant patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and troop guide. He has earned 32 merit badges and a World Conservation Award.
Joshua has completed all five years of the Camp Stigwandish honor camper program and is a trailblazer. He is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow Wapashuwi Lodge.
For his Eagle service project, he planned and supervised the construction of five large dog houses for Angels for Animals.
He is a junior at Mineral Ridge High School, and is active in cross-country, track and band. He participates in Frosty Frolics, Escapades and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has served as freshman and sophomore class treasurer. He is a member of Austintown Community Church.
HONORS
Engineering group leader
Joe Warino, Mahoning County sanitary engineer, has been named president-elect of the Engineers Foundation of Ohio, the educational foundation of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers. Warino is an OSPE past president.
Holly Ross, EFO public relations manager, said EFO works with industry, school systems, colleges and universities to increase mathematical, science and technical aptitude of students and to stimulate interest and provide knowledge for students to become engineers.
The National Society of Professional Engineers promotes the ethical conduct of practicing professional engineers, high standards for engineering education, and to advance public safety and welfare.
PH.D
History doctorate earned
Deborah Pitt Marinski recently received a doctorate in history from the University of Toledo.
Marinski graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in Austintown in 1994. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees the University of Toledo before she went on to get her Ph.D.
She has just finished teaching a summer course at Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio. She is married to Brent Marinski, and they have a child.
DOCTORS
Medical doctorate earned
Dr. Rocco Rossi has received his medical doctorate from the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.
He is a 1997 valedictorian of Rootstown High School. In addition, he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree from John Carroll University and a master's degree in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Rossi is the son of Frank and Barbara Rossi, now of Rootstown, but formerly of the Struthers area. Dr. Rossi is the grandson of Henry Rossi and Rose Pompeii Rossi of Struthers, Alfred and Amelia Labate Catheline of Youngstown, and Carmel Leombruno Rossi of Campbell.
In the upcoming year, Dr. Rossi will be a resident physician at University Hospitals of Cincinnati in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. He lives in Cincinnati with his wife, Catie, and their 6-month-old daughter Elaina.
Pharmacy degree earned
Dr. Joshua Reardon of Columbus, formerly of Poland, has earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from the Ohio State University's College of Pharmacy. The 1998 graduate of Poland Seminary High School earned a bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences from OSU and is completing a one-year pharmacy practice residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He is the son of Thomas and Paula Reardon of Poland.
