NILES -- The Trumbull County Red Cross offers life-saving skills classes at St. Joseph's Health Center in the Eastwood Mall. Classes include: Adult CPR, 6 to 10 p.m., Monday, and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday; Infant/Child CPR, 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday; First Aid Basics, 6 to 9 p.m., Friday . The cost for the classes is $45.
The Red Cross also offers at first aid seminar from 6 to 10 p.m., Thursday, at the Trumbull Red Cross Headquarters, 661 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren. The cost is $25.

Hoge gets honor
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Dawn Hoge, registered nurse, has been named the 2006 Cameos of Caring award recipient for UPMC Horizon. The award recognizes exceptional nurses in the region. Hoge, a pediatric nurse from Mercer, Pa., will represent the hospital at the Cameos of Caring Awards ceremony Sept. 30 at the David L. Lawrence Covention Center in Pittsburgh.
Dental director
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio North East Health Systems has appointed Dr. Thomas Jefferson Reynolds as dental director. Dr. Reynolds has 21 years of experience working in community health centers and has worked with the National Association of Community Health Centers to promote oral health care on a national level.
The Ohio North East Health Systems operates three comprehensive primary health care centers to serve all patients, but especially the medically uninsured and underserved. They are: Youngstown Health Clinic, 726 Wick Ave., Youngstown; Warren West Community Health Clinic, 716 Tod S.W., Warren; and Good Samaritan, 405 S. Linden Ave., Alliance.
Grants awarded
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley and Western Pennsylvania awarded $20,100 to area non-profit organizations. They include: London House, $4,800, Art Advantage program for lower income children between the ages of three and five; HUGGS (Help, Unite, Guide and Give Support), $2,300, support group for families with an infant in special care nursery; Boys & amp; Girls Club, $5,000, equipment for its nutrition and fitness project; S.M.A.R.T.S. (Students Motivated by the Arts), $8,000, art education in partnership with Youngstown State University to provide free arts programs for at-risk students.
Diabetes educator
CANFIELD -- Mary Lou Dale, a certified physician's assistant at Endocrinology Associates of Ohio, 3694 Starrs Centre Drive, Canfield, has received Certified Diabetes Educator status from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. Dale previously worked 15 years in family practices in Campbell and Columbiana.
Services expanded
WARREN - The Humility of Mary Health Partners Resource Mothers Program has added a van and Gifts of Love Store Room to the services the program offers Trumbull County women in need. A special blessing ceremony to honor the additions is at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 2 at the Resource Mothers Program office, 1400 Tod Ave. N.W. The Gifts of Love Store Room will house donations of diapers, formula, baby clothes, baby furniture, baby wipes and educational materials. The van, donated by Catholic Healthcare Partners, will transport Resource Mothers Program clients to doctor appointments and other appointments they have that will ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. The program is free and available to any woman in need in Trumbull County.
Makeup class
HOWLAND - Lori Ovitz, author of "Facing the Mirror with Cancer" and celebrity makeup artist, offers a free makeup presentation from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 4, at the Avalon Inn, 9519 E. Market St.
Sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners Cancer Centers and St. Joseph Development Foundation, the event is for female patients who are undergoing or recently completed active cancer treatment. Ovitz's book gives techniques for dealing with appearance issues during and after cancer treatment. All guests will receive a free copy. The evening will also include dinner and door prizes.
