Novelist Laura Lippman to speak at fundraiser



The author published seven books before turning to fiction writing full time.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Laura Lippman, a newspaper reporter turned award-winning crime novelist, will be the featured author at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County's second annual Literary Society author event at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Main Library, 305 Wick Ave.
The cost is $50 per person, and library staff is now accepting reservations for the fund-raising event.
About the author
Lippman was a reporter for 20 years, including 12 years at The (Baltimore) Sun. She began writing novels while working full time and published seven books about "accidental PI" Tess Monaghan before leaving daily journalism in 2001.
Her newest novel, released this summer, is "No Good Deeds," another in a series about Monaghan, who made her first appearance in 1997 in Lippman's "Baltimore Blues."
Lippman has received literary awards including the Edgar & reg;, the Anthony, the Agatha, the Shamus, the Nero Wolfe, and Gumshoe and Barry awards for her work. She also has been nominated for other prizes in the crime fiction field, including the Hammett and the Macavity.
She was the first recipient of the Mayor's Prize for Literary Excellence and the first genre writer recognized as Author of the Year by the Maryland Library Association.
