LT Brad Hopkins was cut for salary cap reasons, then retired in June after 13 seasons. C Justin Hartwig chose Carolina in free agency over a return, and S Tank Williams was not re-signed.

SS Lawyer Milloy, FS Chris Crocker and LT Wayne Gandy were other notable veteran additions who should start. CB Jimmy Williams and RB Jerious Norwood were draft picks with best chance to help in 2006. Bill Musgrave is new QB coach. UCLA offensive coordinator Tom Cable was hired as offensive line coach.Important losses: S Bryan Scott was shipped to Saints in the trade for Gandy. Two more safeties, Keion Carpenter and Ronnie Heard, were not re-signed. DE Brady Smith, whose production dipped last season, was released. PK Todd Peterson also was not re-signed. OL coach Jeff Jagodzinski was hired as Green Bay's offensive coordinator.
