Amateur radio classes to be offered

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association will conduct an amateur radio course on two consecutive Saturdays in September.
The classes will run from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 9 and 16. They'll be held at the ITT Technical Institute 1030 N. Meridian Road.
The classes are designed to help students learn basic radio theory in preparation for taking a Ham Radio license exam. Students passing this exam will earn an entry-level amateur radio license from the Federal Communications Commission.
License exams will be given on Sept. 16, at the conclusion of the course. The course is free, but students must buy a study guide for $15.95 plus shipping; it should be ordered a month before the classes start, association officials said.
There may be some home study that will be needed to be done to complete the course. Mentors will be made available by phone to answer any questions during home study.
Registration deadline is Aug. 5. There is also $14 fee for taking the exam, which must be paid prior to taking it, they said.
Call Jerry or Bonnie Viele at (330) 534-1394 for details, including information on ordering the study guild. Please do not call the ITT Technical Institute for information.
