School district in fiscal watch seeks tax bump

SEBRING -- The Sebring school board on Wednesday voted to put a 1 percent tax on the November ballot.
Sebring Superintendent Howard Friend said the income tax would bring in about $390,000 a year.
If approved by voters, it would go into effect Jan. 1, 2007, and run for five years.
"We've made cuts, and every year we squeak by," Friend said.
The 730-pupil district has been in a state fiscal watch for 21/2 years.
