MLB ROUNDUP Monday's other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 4, Mariners 2
NEW YORK -- Jason Giambi homered and Chien-Ming Wang pitched seven innings in 93-degree heat. Mariano Rivera wriggled out of another jam for his 401st save, securing New York's eighth victory in nine games. Johnny Damon had three hits and an RBI, and Miguel Cairo hit a two-run single. The Yankees won their fourth straight and improved to a season-high 18 games above .500. Wang (10-4) used his heavy sinker to work around three errors by third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who was replaced on defense by Nick Green in the eighth. New York took advantage of a key Seattle error, sending the last-place Mariners to their ninth loss in 11 games. Following consecutive extra-inning losses in Toronto, the Mariners got a solid start from fast-working Jarrod Washburn (4-10) but couldn't capitalize on four errors by the Yankees in the first meeting between the teams this season.
Red Sox 5, Royals 4
BOSTON -- Manny Ramirez's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning capped Boston's comeback from a four-run deficit. Boston rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the seventh on Coco Crisp's RBI single and Doug Mirabelli's three-run homer. Pinch-runner Willie Harris scored the winning run on Ramirez's sacrifice fly to left in the eighth. Mike Timlin (5-0) pitched a perfect eighth and Jonathan Papelbon worked the ninth for his 27th save in 30 opportunities. Joel Peralta (1-2) was the loser as the Royals lost for the sixth time in seven games.
Orioles 5, Athletics 3
BALTIMORE -- Melvin Mora and Miguel Tejada hit run-scoring singles in the seventh inning to carry Baltimore to its third straight victory. Brian Roberts went 2-for-2 with two walks for the Orioles, who blew a 3-0 lead, then went ahead for good against Kirk Saarloos (3-6) in the seventh.
Blue Jays 10, Rangers 1
TORONTO -- Vernon Wells hit a grand slam in a nine-run fourth inning for Toronto. Reed Johnson and Lyle Overbay also homered for the Blue Jays, who have won three straight. Ted Lilly (9-8) yielded one run and seven hits in eight innings for the Blue Jays. He struck out two and walked two.
Twins 6, Devil Rays 3
MINNEAPOLIS -- Justin Morneau's bases-loaded bloop single scored two of Minnesota's four runs in the fourth inning. Scott Baker (3-5) gave up three runs in six innings and the Twins improved their major league-leading home record to 34-11 with their ninth consecutive win over the Devil Rays -- dating to July 21, 2004. Greg Norton and Travis Lee homered for Tampa Bay, but rookie Tim Corcoran (4-1) got stuck with his first major league loss.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Braves 15, Cardinals 3
ST. LOUIS -- Brian McCann hit a grand slam and leadoff man Wilson Betemit was 4-for-6 with a homer and five RBIs as Atlanta snapped St. Louis' seven-game winning streak. Chipper Jones had three singles and two RBIs although his 14-game extra-base hit streak, which tied the major league record set by Pittsburgh's Paul Waner in 1927, came to an end. The Braves third baseman has a 17-game hitting streak, and during his run he had eight doubles, a triple and seven homers. Adam LaRoche was 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, Jeff Francoeur had three hits and reliever Jorge Sosa homered for the Braves, who have won a season-high six straight and scored in double figures the last four games, totaling 51 runs in that span.
