Man will be charged in crash that killed teen on Route 11
A Conneaut man was arraigned on traffic charges Monday.
LISBON -- Information on a deadly traffic accident Sunday afternoon on state Route 11 is to be presented directly to the Columbiana County grand jury, according to John Gamble, an assistant county prosecutor.
Christopher H. Morris, 30, of Conneaut, Ohio, has been charged in Columbiana County Municipal Court with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop in an assured clear distance.
Morris ran from the scene of the accident but was apprehended a short time later, according to law enforcement officials. He refused to take tests.
Morris was arraigned Monday by video from the county jail. He entered innocent pleas, and his total bond was set at $2,500. No mention was made of the fatality.
Gamble declined to comment further on the case including whether blood samples had been taken from the suspect.
The patrol said a truck driven by Morris struck the rear by a van that went off the left side of Route 11 and overturned.
Sarah M. Kinner, 17, of Toledo died of injuries she received when she was ejected from the rear of the van.
Morris' truck also went off the left side of the road. He was treated at Salem Community Hospital.
The driver of the van, Alison F. Macke, 19, of Toledo was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. A hospital spokesperson said Macke had been in the emergency room but had gone home.
Another passenger, Zachary Doran, 19, of Toledo was in fair condition in St. Elizabeth.
