"Eureka" (9 p.m., Sci-Fi Channel): In this new series, a lost U.S. marshal (Colin Ferguson) stumbles upon a hidden town where the government has tucked the world's greatest geniuses. Because everyone is so advanced, the town is no ordinary place. It's high-tech, futuristic and filled with eccentrics who are safe from the crazy people of today's world. "Eureka" is "Northern Exposure" meets "Twin Peaks." But even in this utopia, there's trouble. The Eureka residents have unleashed a scientific creation still unknown to the outside world. This spurs the marshal to step in and try to restore order. "Eureka" looks at a community that is built on good intentions gone wrong. No matter how smart or advanced a person may be, "Eureka" shows all humans have the same basic flaws.
"The Contender" (10 p.m., ESPN): It's "American Idol" with cuts and bruises as Round 2 of "The Contender" gets under way. The show has moved from NBC to cable and Sylvester Stallone is strictly behind the scenes this time around. But Sugar Ray Leonard is back as host and 16 new boxing title hopefuls are ready to duke it out.
"The One: Making of a Music Star" (9 p.m., ABC): This sounds like yet another "Idol" wannabe. Once again, a group of contestants will vie for your votes in an effort to land a big recording deal. The main difference is that this show is set in a music academy, so you'll be able to watch all the training and rehearsals if you're into that sort of thing.
