Austintown man in standoff hospitalized
AUSTINTOWN -- A man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center after a standoff with police at the Joseph Knight Towers apartments on Westchester Drive.
Township police went to the apartments at 7:44 a.m. Monday after getting a call about a disturbance there, said Austintown Lt. Ronald Deamicis.
Deamicis said there were reports of screaming and arguing at an apartment there. When police arrived, they found Terry Grinstead Jr., 32, inside his fourth-floor apartment alone. He refused to come out.
Police could hear him inside talking to himself, saying he was the head of the CIA, the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms bureau and the owner of the apartment building, Deamicis said. Police asked him to come out, and he opened the door to tell them he had a restraining order against them and they should leave.
When they could not resolve the problems with Grinstead, they called the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, Deamicis said.
Grinstead opened the door, unaware that task force officers were outside, Deamicis said. When he wouldn't obey their orders, they struck him with a Taser gun several times.
He was taken to the hospital for his own protection, Deamicis said. No charges were filed.
