Christmas in July, a fundraiser for Friends Bookstore of the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22 and 29, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 24, 25 and 26, at the bookstore, located on the lower level of the Poland Branch Library. Used books on seasonal decorating, cooking and holiday crafts will be half-price. Friends Bookstore is run on a nonprofit, all-volunteer basis, and all proceeds support countywide library services such as Summer Reading Club, Teen Extreme and C.S.I.-Y'town mystery group. FUNDRAISERS
Putt for Mutts, a fundraiser for Animal Charity, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 28 at Glow Fore It! miniature golf course, 8414 Market St., Boardman. Admission is $6.50 for adults and $5 for seniors and children 3 to 10; 50 percent of the cost will go to Animal Charity, a nonprofit program that operates a lost and found service for pets, investigates animal cruelty cases, and has a wildlife rehabilitation center and a veterinary clinic. The eighth annual Lifetime Television Golf Scramble will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 2 at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage, Pa., as a benefit for the American Cancer Society. The field is limited and preregistration is required. Each four-person team will be composed of two men and two women. The cost is $75 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, lunch, dinner, refreshments and prizes. For an entry form or more information, call the golf course at (724) 981-3552.
RAFFLES
Hubbard Alumni Association will hold a football raffle for two tickets to the Ohio State University-Penn State University game to take place Sept. 23. The winner also will receive a two-night stay at the Marriott Courtyard North for Sept. 22 and 23 along with $300 cash. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at The Village Tavern. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the tavern or Joe Carno's Barbershop in Hubbard or the Golden Dawn Restaurant in Youngstown. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund.
SPECIAL EVENTS
American Legion Posts 732 and 504 and their auxiliaries will sponsor a luau at 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at 2225 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown. Dinner will be served from 2:30 to 7 p.m. only. Cost is $5 per person. There will be a disc jockey and prizes.The 74th annual Serbian Day Picnic will be held beginning at noon Sunday at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 53 Laird Ave., Youngstown. Traditional foods will be available, including a chicken paprikash dinner beginning at 11:30 a.m., and there will be entertainment from 4 to 9 p.m. by Melvin Evanovich and the Balkan Serenaders.
