Back in 1st place: Mahoning Valley turns back Tigers



Andy Lytle lifted his league-leading batting average to .378.
ONEONTA, N.Y. -- One day after giving up 21 hits in their worst defeat of the season, three Mahoning Valley pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Scrappers upended the Oneonta Tigers 7-3 in a New York Penn League game on Sunday at Damaschke Field.
The Scrappers (15-11) pulled a half-game ahead of Batavia (13-10) for first place in the Pinckney Division standings.
Matthew McBride went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs, while Dustin Realini added two hits and a three-run double in the sixth that gave the Scrappers a 3-0 lead.
Mahoning Valley added two more runs in the top of the seventh on a double by McBride and a Oneonta throwing error.
The Tigers (14-11) made it 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Ryan Strieby and a two-run triple by Scott Sizemore.
Mahoning Valley then scored two more runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Josh Rodriguez and an RBI double by McBride.
Andy Lytle, who leads the league in batting average (.378), went 2-for-3 and scored three runs for the Scrappers, who lost 14-0 to the Tigers on Saturday.
Scrappers starter Luis Valdez threw five scoreless inning, giving up one hit with three walks and five strikeouts to improve to a league-best 5-0 with a 1.38 ERA. Neal Wagner pitched the final 21/3 innings to pick up his fifth save.
