Comets 82, Sky 77
CHICAGO -- Michelle Snow tied a career high with 24 points and added 10 rebounds to help the Houston Comets beat the Chicago Sky. Sheryl Swoopes had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Comets, snapping a five-game road losing streak and a three-game losing streak overall. Jia Perkins had 14 points and six assists for Chicago as the Sky lost their second straight game. Bernadette Ngoyisa had 16 points and Candice Dupree added 13. Chicago got to within four points on three different occasions late in the fourth quarter, but Houston responded with a basket each time to seal the win. An 8-2 run midway through the fourth quarter -- capped by a Swoopes 3 -- gave the Comets a commanding 74-64 lead with 5:54 left in the game. Up 54-53 in the third period, the Comets hit back-to-back 3's to key an 8-0 run that gave Houston a 62-53 lead with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter.
Sting 81, Silver Stars 65
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tangela Smith scored 25 points and the Charlotte Sting snapped a five-game losing streak. Sheri Sam added 15 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Sting (4-16), who won for only the second time in 14 games. Smith who played in her first All-Star game Wednesday as an injury replacement, hit an 8-footer in the final minute of the third quarter to cap a 17-4 run and put the Sting ahead 64-50. Her 3-pointer with 3:55 left made it 77-59. Smith, who was three points shy of her career-high, made 10-of-14 shots and all three of her free throws in her fourth straight double-figure scoring game. The Sting, which came into the game as the third-worst rebounding team in the league, held a 42-25 edge on the boards and shot 51 percent. Agnieszka Bibrzycka scored 11 points and Vickie Johnson added 10 for the Silver Stars (10-10).
