Win in regional decided in 10th



Carmen Tarantino had six RBIs and got the mound win for Boardman's 13-year-old team.
BOARDMAN -- The Boardman 13-year-old All-Star team defeated Vesta (Pa.) 12-9 in 10 innings to advance in the winners' bracket of the Pony regional tournament on Saturday.
The game was suspended in the seventh inning on Friday with Boardman leading 9-5.
Mike Bodner hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game for Vesta, but Boardman put the game away in the 10th on a three-run double by Carmen Tarantino. Tyler Walls entered as a reliever and closed it out for Boardman.
Tarantino went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double and six RBIs. Tarantino also got the mound win.
For Vesta, Jeff Tarley had a two-run homer. Clay Roman took the loss.
Boardman will play Butler at 10 a.m. today. The winner advances to meet the losers' bracket champion in the title game at 3 p.m.
Chambersburg, Pa. 5, Mill Creek 4
Andrew Reed tripled and scored on a pop-up by Nick Stonsiter in the eighth inning as Chambersburg eliminated Mill Creek.
Jake Enyon had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs and Bob Rivera had two hits for Mill Creek. Adam French got the loss.
For Chambersburg, Kyle Patter had a two-run homer. Tyler Fore got the win.
Babe Ruth
ZANESVILLE -- The Youngstown 15-year-old All-Stars defeated the Cincinnati Storm 3-0 in the opening game of the Babe Ruth state championship.
Jaimee Shepherd hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and Patrick O'Brien threw one-hit ball for six innings with nine strikeouts to get the win. Nick Crum and Shawn Roman combined for a scoreless seventh.
Corey Hill and Todd Kibby each added a hit for Youngstown.
Little League softball
CLYDE -- Twelve-year-old Taylor Deemer clamped down on Ashtabula while pitching three strong innings to get the win, leading Poland past Ashtabula, 9-3, in the first round of the state little league tournament for 11-12-year-olds.
Poland advanced to play Tallmadge today at 10 a.m.
Starter Emily Chandler gave way to Deemer before Erin Gabriel pitched the sixth inning. Gabriel, 11, had a single and a double and four RBIs, while 12-year-old Adriana Sikora had two singles and two RBIs.
