Tri-County Golf Classic scheduled for Aug. 14



Teams will have the opportunity to advance to the state tournament.
CANFIELD -- American Cancer Society's eighth annual Tri-County Golf Classic has been scheduled for Aug. 14 at Tippecanoe Country Club.
The four-person scramble will begin at 10 a.m. with registration and a chipping contest followed by lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. A shotgun start is set for 12:30, and a longest-drive contest will be held during the 18 holes of golf. Dinner and awards will conclude the day's activities.
Each golfer will receive a golf shirt, golf shoes and bag, a dozen roses and a bottle of wine.
Cost for the all-day event is $5,000 per team, of which $3,000 is tax-deductible. Each foursome may choose from three flights, depending on the golfer with the lowest index average.
Proceeds will be used by the American Cancer Society for cancer research, education, advocacy and services to patients and families.
In charge
Title sponsor for the event is United Community Financial Corp. Patrick Kelly of The Home Savings and Loan Co. is chairman of the classic, and honorary chairman is Richard A. Salata of Mill Creek Companies. Stephanie Hunter, independent health care consultant, is the honoree.
Seven teams from this tournament will have the opportunity to advance to the ACS Ohio Division State Golf Tournament to be held Sept. 9 and 10 at Firestone Country Club in Akron.
