Realini's home run helps lift Scrappers

Josh Tomlin pitched five innings and got the first win of his pro career.
LOWELL, Mass. -- Dustin Realini went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to a 5-4 victory over the Lowell Spinners Friday at LeLacheur Park.
Mahoning Valley (14-10) still trails Batavia by a half-game in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League standings. Batavia defeated Vermont 3-2 on Friday.
The Scrappers have won 10 of their last 14 games.
Realini's homer -- his third of the season -- came in the top of the second, one out after Kelly Edmundson walked to lead off the inning. Realini added an RBI single in the sixth that also scored Edmundson.
Jared Goedert doubled and scored on a two-base throwing error in the first inning to give the Scrappers a 1-0 lead.
Josh Tomlin got the start and his first victory of his pro career. He gave up three runs on six hits, striking out one and walking two.
Dan Eisentrager pitched three innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits. Matt Meyer picked up his first save of the season with a shutout ninth inning.
Paul Smyth went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Spinners (11-12). Ryan Khoury had two hits and three RBIs.
The Scrappers open a three-game series today against the Oneonta Tigers in New York. Tonight's game begins at 7:05.
