Oneonta shreds Scrappers with 14-0 hit-o-rama

All 14 runs against Mahoning Valley were earned by the Tigers.
ONEONTA, N.Y. --For most of the 2006 season, pitching has been the strong point for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Not Saturday night.
The Oneonta Tigers ripped the Scrappers pitching for 21 hits en route to a 14-0 rout at Damaschke Field before just over 500 fans.
Mahoning Valley didn't give its pitching staff much support as the Scrappers managed just four hits, all against Tigers' starting pitcher Jeffrey Gerbe, who pitched the first seven innings and got the win.
Drop in standings
The loss dropped the Scrappers to 14-11 in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League, while Oneonta snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 14-10.
William Delage started for the Scrappers and was tagged for 11 hits and eight runs in just three innings as he suffered his third loss of the season.
All 14 runs against the Scrappers were earned by the Tigers.
The Scrappers had their only real scoring opportunity in the first inning when leadoff hitter Adam Davis singled and moved to third with one out, but did not score.
Davis and Stephen Douglas accounted for all of the Scrappers hits and each had an infield single.
Oneonta scored all the runs it needed in the bottom of the first, plating four runs on six hits. Six of the first seven batters in the inning hit safely, including doubles by Santo DeLeon and Jeffrey Kunkle.
More doubles
The Tigers made it 8-0 in the third, this time with three hits that included doubles by Ryan Streby and Scott Sizemore.
Oneonta had single runs in the fourth and fifth, the latter coming on a home run by Sizemore.
The two teams will meet in the second game of the series tonight at 6 p.m.
