Missing man found dead in rain-swollen creek
JEFFERSON, Ohio (AP) -- The body of a man missing since Wednesday when he entered a strong current in a Northeast Ohio creek was found Friday.
Mark Dales, 21, of Jefferson, was found by a man who lives near the rain-swollen Mill Creek and was aware of a search, said Rich Mongell, chief investigator for the Ashtabula County coroner's office.
"He went out to look again and found a body underneath branches and a log. He managed to dislodge the body and pulled it to the shore," Mongell said.
The body was sent to the coroner's office in Cuyahoga County, which ruled the cause of death was drowning.
Dales apparently had entered the creek trying to assist one of five swimmers who were struggling in the current and were later rescued.
