POLAND -- Parents, teachers, staff, administrators board members and students will participate in the selection of a new principal for Poland Seminary High School.
Robert A. Rostan resigned the position to become superintendent of the Leetonia school district.
Superintendent Robert L. Zorn said he will appoint a search committee in December.
The nine-member committee will include two school board members, the president of the Students, Teachers, Educators and Parents (STEP) organization, presidents of the high school band and athletic booster clubs, a high school teacher chosen by the teachers' union, a member of the high school's nonteaching staff chosen by that union, a principal, and the president of the student council.
In the meantime, the school board voted in a special meeting Friday to appoint Brian Wolf as interim principal. Wolf, who will earn $65,152 under a one-year contract, served as high school principal from 1986 to 2002.
He was appointed as the high school's assistant principal in 1979, Zorn said.
Hiring process
Once the search committee is in place, the Mahoning County Educational Service Center will distribute an advertisement for the principal post to northeast Ohio schools, colleges and universities. That will likely be in early January 2007, the superintendent said.
The deadline for applications will be the end of January 2007, with applications forwarded to the search committee in February.
In February, the committee will narrow the applicants to the top five candidates, interview them and make a recommendation to Zorn in March.
In April, Zorn will interview the candidate recommended by the committee and make a recommendation to the school board, which is expected to make the decision on hiring a new principal that same month.
