Acoustic duo to playat Courthouse Park
WARREN -- Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, one of the most celebrated duos on the American acoustic music scene, will take to the stage at 7 p.m. Friday at the Gazebo at Courthouse Park, 100 W. Market St.
They perform renditions of Appalachian, Cajun and Celtic fiddle tunes, Civil War classics, songs from the golden age of swing and country, waltzes and original compositions.
The couple, who married in 1991, worked on "American Dreamer," a collection of the songs of Stephen Foster in collaboration with baritone Thomas Hampson and pianist David Alpher; "Waltzing with You," an elaboration on their score for the film "Brother's Keeper," "The Lovers' Waltz," an album of romantic fiddle music from Appalachian, Scandinavian, Celtic, Klezmer and Swing traditions; "Harvest Home" featuring their 20-minute orchestral work, "The Harvest Home Suite," in which they are joined by the Nashville Chamber Orchestra; and "Relax Your Mind," a collection of country blues, waltzes, vintage jazz, western swing, two steps and Dixieland jams, recorded with their band.
The concert is free.

MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer Community Band will present a tribute to the Victorian era during a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Mercer County Courthouse Square as part of the three-day Victorian weekend.
Guest vocal soloist will be Susan Woge, soprano, who will perform selections from "The Sound of Music" and lead a sing-along of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
Guest instrumental soloist is Kathleen Schott, principal flute with West Virginia Symphony and Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. Among selections will be the novelty number, "Whistler and His Dog."
Warm-up entertainment at 6:15 p.m. will be provided by Second Avenue Project, which performs a Las Vegas-style band show.
There will be an ice cream social and Mercer Band Boosters will sell popcorn. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be at Mercer High School auditorium, 545 W. Butler St.
Listen to musicand tour Loghurst
CANFIELD -- Loghurst, 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road, will present an outdoor concert featuring Flat Iron Bluegrass Band from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
An admission rate of $5 per car includes parking, concert and tour of historic Loghurst, the oldest remaining log house in Northeast Ohio. The grounds open at 5 p.m. and there will be open and guided tours every hour until 8 p.m.
Those attending are invited to take blankets and lawn chairs. Food will be sold. Loghurst is a property of Western Reserve Historical Society.
