NHL ROUNDUP \ News and notes

Wild: Restricted free agent defenseman Brent Burns was re-signed to a two-year, $1.65 million contract. The 21-year-old Burns played in a career-high 72 games for Minnesota last season, scoring four goals and registering 12 assists.
Red Wings: Forward Dan Cleary was signed to a two-year contract. He played in 77 games last season for Detroit and had three goals and 15 points. Detroit lost forward Brendan Shanahan in free agency to the New York Rangers Sunday, less than a week after captain Steve Yzerman announced his retirement. The 27-year-old Cleary was signed by Detroit as a free agent last year after playing for Chicago, Edmonton and Phoenix. He has 127 points in 406 games and had a career-high 35 points during the 2000-01 season with the Oilers.
Stars: Center Steve Ott was re-signed and the team added center Marty Sertich, a free agent who was the nation's top college hockey player in 2005. The 23-year-old Ott signed a two-year contract after setting career highs in goals (5), assists (17) and points (22) last season. The 23-year-old Sertich, who signed a three-year contract, won the 2005 Hobey Baker Award after leading Colorado College to its first Frozen Four since 1997. A finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2006, Sertich played in all 166 Colorado College games over four seasons, scoring 182 points.
Devils: Veteran defenseman Colin White was re-signed to a multi-year contract and right wing Mike Rupp also signed. The 28-year-old White, who has spent all six of his NHL seasons with the Devils, was a member of the Stanley Cup team in 2003. Last season he had three goals, 14 assists and 91 penalty minutes in 73 games. White has 15 goals, 56 points and 613 penalty minutes in 396 career regular season games. Rupp, who spent last season with Phoenix, played for the Devils for parts of the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons.
Sabres: Forward Andrew Peters was signed to a one-year, $460,000 contract and defenseman Jan Hejda was traded to the Oilers. The Sabres received Edmonton's seventh-round pick in next year's draft in exchange for Hejda. Buffalo's fourth-round pick in the 2003 draft, the 28-year-old Hejda is unsigned and has spent his entire career playing in Europe. Peters, who led Buffalo with 100 penalty minutes last season, avoided salary arbitration by signing his deal over the weekend. The contract includes a slight raise from Peters' salary last season and includes a one-way clause, which means he'll receive his NHL salary even if he's demoted to the minors. A two-year veteran, Peters played a minor role with the Sabres, registering no points in 28 games last season. He was a healthy scratch during the team's playoff run.
