Anniversary celebration held to honor Vaskos
XCHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Vasko, 415 Davis Love Drive, was celebrated during a family party held July 7 at Emerald Isle in North Carolina.
Mr. Vasko and the former Beverly A. Nanosky were united in marriage July 7, 1956, at Holy Trinity Church in Youngstown. They are members of St. Andrew Church in Apex, N.C.
Their family includes Diane Hilow of Phoenix, Philip M. Vasko of Arlington, Va., Matthew J. Vasko of Apex and five grandchildren. A son, Kenneth F. Vasko, is deceased.
Mrs. Vasko was employed by the FBI, was a school teacher in Ethiopia, and a real estate broker. She retired in 1998.
Mr. Vasko served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1955 to 1959. He was employed by the U.S. State Department and was a foreign service officer with 20 years' overseas assignments in Cyprus, Japan, Iran, Ethiopia, Laos and the Philippines. He retired in 2005.
