Wick District churches schedule service

YOUNGSTOWN -- Congregants from Wick District churches will hold the third annual ecumenical service at 10 a.m. Sunday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. Also participating will be First Presbyterian Church, Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church, New Beginnings Outreach and Ursuline High School.
Germaine Bennett, human resources director at Youngstown Board of Education and a Wick Neighbors Inc. board member, will speak. Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams also is expected to attend and speak briefly.
After the service, light refreshments will be served on the church lawn.
The service, which celebrates the progress of the Wick District-Smoky Hollow neighborhood, draws more than 200 participants. Wick Neighbors Inc. will have an information tent on Wick Avenue across from Butler Institute of American Art.
The event is being held in association with the Summer Festival of the Arts, which takes place today and Sunday on Youngstown State University campus.
