WARREN -- Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, one of the most celebrated duos on the American acoustic music scene, will take the stage at the Gazebo at Courthouse Park at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. With timeless renditions of Appalachian, Cajun and Celtic fiddle tunes, Civil War classics, songs from the golden age of swing and country, waltzes, and moving original compositions, the duo embrace the heart and soul of American roots music.
Ungar and Mason have appeared on "Good Morning," "All Things Considered," "A Prairie Home Companion," and the BBC's "Transatlantic Sessions," a series of seven music specials.
Their Ashokan Fiddle & amp; Dance Camps, in New York's Catskill Mountains, remain a favorite learning vacation destination for music and dance enthusiasts across the country.
Peace Action groupplans benefit concerts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tickets are available for two events sponsored by Peace Action Youngstown.
A concert by the Batterie, a progressive Brooklyn-based group whose lead singer has voice that evokes Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday, will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Action House, 204 Broadway (corner of Elm Street).
Tickets are $12 ($10 for students and members) and can be purchased by calling (330) 747-5404.
Give Peace a Dance, featuring the Terry Barrett Band, will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Youngstown Maennerchor, 831 Mahoning Ave. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

School of music plansvocal performance clinic
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Dana Vocal Performance Clinic will be held from July 28 to Aug. 4 in Bliss Recital Hall at Youngstown State University.
This award-winning program offers gifted performers an opportunity to develop their performance abilities and gain further knowledge in their pursuit of singing. Daily activities include warm-up techniques, vocal literature, foreign language diction, acting principles, music theory and history, stage presence and movement, vocal instruction and master classes.
The faculty of the DVPC consists of professors from Dana School of Music and advanced voice students. Guest artists are professional experts in the field of vocal health, choral conducting, gospel styles, dance and acting.
The highlight of the DVPC will be a gala concert on the evenings of Aug. 2 and 4. Admission is free and open to the public. In addition, students will attend daily vocal recitals and perform in several venues through the community.
The Dana Vocal Performance Clinic is open to all singers who will be in high school during the 2006-07 school year, and incoming YSU voice majors.

Hermitage Arts Festivalto feature free concert
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Hermitage Arts Festival will be July 22 and July 23 at 800-900 N. Hermitage Road on the grounds of the Hermitage Municipal Building and the Children's Center of Mercer County. There will be art, music and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 22 and noon to 6 p.m. July 23. A free concert featuring the Hern Brothers is set for 7 p.m. July 21 at the Rodney White Olympic Park.
Registration beginsfor talent show
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Pig Iron Literary and Art Works Community Street Festival is accepting registration for its talent show which will take place at 4 p.m. July 29. The event, which will take place on North Phelps Street in downtown Youngstown, is open to amateurs of all ages. Participation is free-of-charge.
Contestants, individuals or groups up to four people will be given four minutes of stage time. Registration will end when the show is filled up.
Judges will award two "best of show" prizes, judging based on age-appropriateness, poise and originality. To register, call (330) 747-6932.
