Pa. school site is vandalized
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Police are investigating vandalism at Wilmington Area Schools complex they believe took place after someone stole a golf cart and a riding lawn mower from two other locations.
Police said a golf cart was stolen around 2 a.m. Friday from Westminster College, and a riding lawn mower was stolen between 2 and 4 a.m. Friday from Victory Christian Center on Cowden Road. Police found the damaged lawn mower in a field behind the Wilmington football stadium. The golf cart is still missing.
Police said whoever stole the golf cart and lawn mower used the vehicles to vandalize picnic tables, softball field fencing, trees, shrubs and flowers at the Wilmington school complex, and also attempted to use the mower to force entry into the high school football stadium.
Police said a gate in the perimeter fence was damaged apparently by the lawn mower slamming into it several times. School officials are assessing the damage to the school grounds and equipment.
