Mahoning Valley Rose Society announces rose show winners



A wide variety of roses were entered in competition for trophies.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The presentation of trophies climaxed a two-day rose show held by Mahoning Valley Rose Society on June 24-25 at the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek Park.
Following judging by accredited American Rose Show judges, the Queen of the Show winners were Pat Martinec with her red hybrid tea rose, "Let Freedom Ring," and R.J. Anthony, who captured the Best in Show award with his entry, "Dainty Bess."
Martinec was also the recipient of the Elizabeth Fellows Trophy for her "Moonstone, Glamis Castle, Jilly Jewel," and had several other winning entries.
Anthony's roses took a number of awards, including: King of Show with "Peace," Princess of Show with "Brandenburg Gate," the Warren Knopp Trophy for "Sheer Bliss," the Mini Queen for "Soroptimist International," the Mini Flora Queen with "Regina Lee," Mini Flora King with "Class of 73" and Mini Flora Princess with "Charismatic."
Jean Krafft received the Mini King award with "Glowing Amber" and Mini Princess with "Giggles." Her other entries received recognition.
Other award winners were Doreen Cavaliere with the Dowager Queen award for "General Kleber," and Joan Sewickley, who took the Richard Stromberg Trophy with "The Fairy."
Winning entries in other categories were submitted by Stromberg, Roxanne Macynski and Jason Lawton.
Martinec and Sewickley served as co-chairwomen for the event.
