Litter cleanup has 17th successful year

WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has concluded its 17th year in the nation's largest organized litter cleanup and beautification event.
The Great American Cleanup, sponsored by Keep America Beautiful, involved 7,366 pupils from 68 local schools in cleaning area school grounds, parks and neighborhoods.
The solid waste district conducted more than 150 presentations to schoolchildren to help reinforce the importance of a clean community. The presentations included the "Meet Mother Earth" kindergarten and first-grade program, and recycling and composting lessons for older pupils.
This year's campaign also involved community day events in 20 communities including Warren, Liberty, McDonald and Leavittsburg.
