Eyeing drunken drivers
The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will have a sobriety checkpoint in the county from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday. The task force will be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for Operating a Vehicle Impaired offenders and those not wearing safety belts. The OVI Task Force's mission is to keep roads safe by reducing alcohol- and drug-related crashes through public awareness and enforcement. The task force encourages responsible drinking and the use of sober designated drivers.
4-H benefit barbecue
CORTLAND -- Trumbull County 4-H Advisory Committee will have its annual barbecue dinner at 11 a.m. July 16 at the 160th annual Trumbull County Fair. The barbecue will be under the pavilion in the horse arena area of the fairgrounds. A $6 meal will include a barbecue pork sandwich, baked beans, applesauce, a cookie and a drink. Individual sandwiches also can be purchased for $3. Meals will be served until food is sold out. Proceeds from the barbecue go toward providing camp scholarships, recognition for 4-H members and families, 4-H program supplies, scholarships for state and national 4-H trips, and various other items that have a direct impact on 4-H families.
Outdoor festival
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- The 13th annual Pymatuning Pioneer & amp; Art Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 29 and July 30 at Pymatuning State Park, Route 322. Activities include butter churning, candle dipping, ice cream making, wagon and buggy rides, food, music and entertainment. There also will be artists, crafters, pioneer demonstrations, displays, encampments and a petting zoo. A pie-eating contest, a crowd favorite, will be Sunday. Parking is free. Grants for communities
MERCER, Pa. -- Four Mercer County communities are getting money from the state Community Conservation Partnership Program to help with local projects: Grove City Borough, $50,000 for Memorial Park shelters and paving; Mercer County Regional Council of Governments, $20,000 to determine the feasibility of rehabilitating the Lackawannock-Shenango-West Middlesex Community Pool in West Middlesex; Sharon, $31,600 for the rehabilitation of B Street, Jefferson, Thornton and Wengler playgrounds; Wilmington Township, $6,000 for a master site development plan for the recently acquired two-acre parcel of land adjacent to the township building.
