Church picnic
NORTH LIMA -- As part of its 200th anniversary celebration, the congregation of Good Hope Lutheran Church, state routes 7 and 165, will hold its annual picnic from noon to 2:30 p.m. July 16 at the church. Friends and former members are invited to come dressed for the picnic and attend the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The event will feature the opening of the 175th anniversary time capsule and a concert by the Glick family.
Flame Fellowship
BOARDMAN -- Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship International, an interdenominational ministry, will host Marion Krauss as guest speaker during a meeting July 17 at Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Township Park. Krauss is an evangelist in word and song. Fellowship will start at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7.
Mass for guild
AUSTINTOWN -- The Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will hold its monthly Mass at 10 a.m. July 19 at St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road. The rosary will be at 9:30.
New associate pastor
BOARDMAN -- Monsignor Robert J. Siffrin, diocesan administrator, appointed the Rev. Matthew Shelton as associate pastor at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, effective July 15. He is associate pastor at St. Joseph Church in Canton.
Father Shelton, who was ordained May 28, 2005, completed seminary studies at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Youngstown State University.
Organ recital
YOUNGSTOWN -- Organist Joseph Petros III will present a free organ recital at 6 p.m. July 16 at St. Columba Cathedral, corner of Wood and Elm streets. The program will include works by Barber, Guilmant, Vierne and Messiaen. Petros will be a junior at the University of Notre Dame.
Pastoral anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will hold appreciation services at 10:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday for the Rev. Lewis W. Macklin II and the pastoral family in recognition of the ninth year of ministry. The Rev. Robert Bass, senior pastor of United Baptist Church in Toledo, will officiate at the morning service, and the Rev. Solomon Hill and congregation of Centenary United Methodist Church will be guests at the afternoon service.
The Rev. Mr. Macklin, who has served as president of the Baptist Pastors Council, is the second vice president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and co-chairman of ACTION's clergy caucus. He also is involved in community and civic organizations.
Art and prayer retreat
Villa Maria, PA. -- Villa Maria Retreat Center will sponsor an "Art Retreat: Mandala and Prayer" on Aug. 13-20. Sister Paulette Kirschensteiner, an artist and art teacher with a master's degree in fiber arts, will lead the retreat that will focus on art and the mandala as a means of deepening one's relationship with God. She has offered art and prayer experiences for the past 25 years.

Speaker at service
EAST PALESTINE -- Dr. Victor Wan-Tatah, professor of religion at Youngstown State University and parish associate at First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, will speak at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. His sermon is titled "Preconditions for Representation." There will be music by the Praise Band.
New pastor
BRISTOLVILLE -- Bristolville United Methodist Church, state Routes 45 and 88, will welcome its new pastor, the Rev. Roger Norton and his wife, Elsie, at a covered-dish dinner after the worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The church is handicap-accessible.
Guest speaker
COLUMBIANA -- Chad Palmer will speaker at 6 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road, where he is a member. He is the grandson of the Rev. John Bartholomew, church pastor, and his wife, Ruth.
First anniversary
LIBERTY -- The Word and Music Ministry will celebrate its first anniversary Sunday at the home of Vern and Kim Worona, 6735 Sodom-Hutchings Road. A picnic will be at 3 p.m. with a service at 6:30. BOARDMAN -- The quartet Praise will participate in the worship service at 10 a.m. July 16 at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Celebration set
WARREN -- The Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, 2165 Highland Ave., will celebrate the birthday of its pastor, the Rev. David L. Herron Sr., during a service at 5 p.m. Sunday. Recording artist Dr. Rance Allen will be a guest.
