Wright's homer helps lead Mets past Pirates, 7-5
Steve Trachsel allowed three runs in 61/3 innings for New York.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Cliff Floyd and David Wright each drove in two runs and Steve Trachsel allowed seven hits, working into the seventh inning of the New York Mets' 7-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday night.
Floyd doubled in two runs off Pirates rookie starter Tom Gorzelanny (0-1) in the second inning. Wright hit his 19th homer, a two-run shot, in the fifth.
Trachsel (8-4) allowed three runs, walked four and struck out four in 61/3 innings. Billy Wagner allowed an unearned run the ninth for his 17th save in 21 opportunities.
Gorzelanny allowed a run without a hit in the third. Jose Reyes walked, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Carlos Delgado's infield out.
Gorzelanny hit Floyd with a pitch to lead off the fourth and then issued a one-out walk to Eli Marrero. Both runners advanced on Trachsel's sacrifice before Reyes singled to center to score both and make it 5-0.
Another injury
It was the third day in a row Floyd has been injured. He collided with Reyes in short left field on Tuesday, suffering a mild concussion, and was hit in the right knee with a pitch on Wednesday.
"At first, it was a little tingly down to my fingers," said Floyd. "It kind of scared me."
Randolph, who went out to check on his big left fielder, was amused by the whole thing afterward.
"He's very dramatic, let me put it that way," he said. "I guess it hurt. He seemed like he was in a lot of pain. I didn't know if I should hold him up or just let him go down, so I just let him go down. He went down on a knee, for an eight-count, I guess."
Both teams scored two runs in the fifth with the Pirates getting an RBI single from Jason Bay and an RBI double from Joe Randa. Wright homered in the bottom of the inning off reliever Jonah Bayliss after Delgado walked.
Pittsburgh added a run in the seventh when Randa greeted reliever Aaron Heilman with an RBI single and another in the eighth on Freddie Sanchez's RBI double.
Gorzelanny allowed five runs and four hits in four hits, walking four without a strikeout.
