Girls hangs herself in closet accident
COLUMBUS (AP) -- A 2-year-old girl hanged herself with a terry-cloth belt while playing in an apartment's bedroom closet, and police were considering her death an accident.
Erin Goudy was copying some older children who had been swinging on the belt, which became caught around her neck, Sgt. Eric Pilya said.
An adult aunt was baby-sitting the girl and three other children, ages 7, 5 and 3, on Wednesday.
The older children had been in the closet taking turns swinging on the belt, which was from a robe, Pilya said. They didn't give the girl a turn, but when they left the room, she sneaked into the closet, he said.
The girl was found a short time later. Police were called to the apartment about 4:30 p.m. and she was pronounced dead at Doctors Hospital about an hour later.
