"Dispatch From the Danger Zone" (8 p.m., Discovery): In this four-part documentary series, journalists Ben Anderson and Simon Reeve visit various countries scarred by civil war and conflict. The first stop is the west coast of Africa, where the reporters encountered child soldiers in Liberia and skirmishes over diamond mining in Sierra Leone.
"Psych" (10 p.m., USA): Can a would-be detective manage to psych real cops into thinking he's psychic? That's the game plan for Shawn Spencer, a fun-loving gadfly whose powers of observation are sufficiently acute that he contrives to pass himself off as a consulting psychic to the local police.
USA's lighthearted new drama, "Psych," pits Shawn against bad guys whose crimes he attempts to solve with his oversold skills, as well as against the cops who retain him but stay skeptical that he's the mastermind he claims to be. James Roday ("Miss Match," "The Dukes of Hazzard") plays Shawn, paired up with Dule Hill ("The West Wing") as Shawn's best friend and reluctant crime-busting sidekick. Corbin Bernsen ("L.A. Law") plays Shawn's crusty, disapproving father, a former cop who coached him as a child to develop his observational skills while pushing him, much too hard, to be a cop, too.
"Monk" (9 p.m., USA): Our favorite obsessive-compulsive detective returns to prime time as "Monk" launches its fifth season.
& quot;Africa & quot; (10 p.m., PBS): In part 6 of this 8-part special presentation of & quot;Nature, & quot; an enterprising farmer decides toenter the tourism trade.
