BAZETTA -- The 160th annual Trumbull County Fair from Sunday through July 16 will be a mix of the old and new -- including a first: race car driving.
All of the usual carnival rides and agricultural exhibits will be on display at the fairgrounds in Bazetta Township, along with historical displays and first-time events.
This will be the first year there will be race car driving during the fair, fair board President Richard Roscoe said. "We've had them here at the grandstand at other times, but never during the week of the fair," he said.
Other grandstand-filling events include school bus racing, demolition derbies and tractor pulls, Roscoe said.
The Historical Village Association of Trumbull County's display will feature a Civil War encampment and an art exhibit. The Civil War re-enactors from the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and the 15th Ohio Light Artillery will camp in the grove near the historical village.
Other exhibits at the village include a display by artist James G. Friend and a candy counter selling sweet treats such as Mary Janes and Fireballs for a penny.
The fair is a wonderful event for the whole family, said Roscoe, who has been working with the fair board for 30 years.
"The fair keeps kids off the streets," he said. "If I've kept one child off the streets in my years with the fair then it's been worth it. It's also just plain fun."
Admission on Sunday and Monday will be free because there will only be harness racing, Roscoe said.
Beginning next Tuesday, admission will be $7 for adults and children, $3 for senior citizens or $18 for a weekly pass. Admission for children under 24 months is free.
