MLB ROUNDUP | Wednesday's other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Tigers 10, A's 4
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Kenny Rogers won his seventh straight decision against his former club and Craig Monroe hit a two-run homer as Detroit avoided a three-game sweep. Brandon Inge added a solo homer for the Tigers (57-28), who have the best record in baseball but had lost three of four following a seven-game winning streak. Ivan Rodriguez had three hits, including two doubles, and Chris Shelton hit a two-run single in the second inning to stake Rogers (11-3) to a quick lead. He gave up four earned runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Roman Colon pitched the final 3 1/3 innings for his first save. Marco Scutaro hit a two-run homer for the A's, while Bobby Kielty homered and doubled and Mark Kotsay added an RBI double. Kirk Saarloos (3-5) lasted 4 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits and eight runs.
Devil Rays 5, Red Sox 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Carl Crawford singled twice, drove in two runs and stole three bases -- including home in the fourth inning -- and Tampa Bay won its third straight over Boston. Tim Corcoran (3-0) allowed two runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, holding the Red Sox to Jason Varitek's solo homer in the second and Kevin Youkilis' sacrifice fly in the fifth. Brian Meadows got the final three outs for his fourth save. The first-place Red Sox, who came into the series having won 14 of 15, are 6-1 against the Devil Rays at Fenway Park this year, but have lost five of six at Tropicana Field. Rocco Baldelli singled twice and drove in two runs off Jason Johnson (3-10), who has lost both his starts since joining the Red Sox in a trade with Cleveland on June 21. Crawford singled in the fourth then stole second and moved to third on a groundout. With Jorge Cantu batting, Crawford bolted for home when Johnson went into his windup for an 0-1 pitch. He made it easily, sliding into the plate before Varitek could get into position for a tag. It was the first time in his career he stole home.
Rangers 9, Blue Jays 3
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Ian Kinsler had three hits, including one of Texas' four home runs, and Vicente Padilla struck out a season-high 10 for the Rangers. The power show, which also included four doubles, was overdue for the Rangers, who had scored only 21 runs in their previous nine games and lag far behind last year's club-record home run pace. Texas hit 260 homers in 2005, second-most in major league history and four behind the record set by Seattle in 1997. The Rangers entered Wednesday night's game with 87 homers, 11th in the AL.
White Sox 4, Orioles 2
CHICAGO -- Jon Garland won his fourth straight decision and Chicago had a four-run first inning and the held on for its 15th win in 19 games. Chicago closer Bobby Jenks gave up three straight hits and a run in the ninth before striking out the final three batters to earn his 26th save in 27 chances. Garland (8-3) gave up six hits and one run in 7 1/3 innings. Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera (4-6) allowed eight hits and six walks in 6 2/3 innings. The White Sox had four singles and three walks in the first.
Royals 6, Twins 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- John Buck and Reggie Sanders each had two hits and two RBIs and Mark Grudzielanek had three hits for Kansas City. The Royals, who have won 11 of their last 16 games, snapped a 3-3 tie with a three-run seventh.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Padres 6, Phillies 3
PHILADELPHIA -- Khalil Greene's three-run homer off All-Star closer Tom Gordon in the ninth inning lifted San Diego over the Phillies. Jake Peavy pitched seven strong innings and hit his first career homer for the Padres, who snapped an 11-game losing streak to Philadelphia that dated to the 2004 season. Scott Linebrink (6-2) pitched a scoreless inning and Trevor Hoffman finished for his 21st save in 22 chances.
Cubs 1, Astros 0
HOUSTON -- Sean Marshall allowed six hits and struck out two in seven strong innings to help Chicago beat the Astros. Todd Walker had an RBI double in the fifth, the only run off Oswalt (6-5), who lost his second straight complete game. He lost to Texas 3-1 on June 30. Marshall (5-7), meanwhile, snapped a two-game losing streak with his second sharp effort in Houston this season.
Marlins 18, Nationals 9
WASHINGTON -- Florida tied a franchise record with an eight-run inning in a rout of the Nationals in the highest scoring game ever played at RFK Stadium. The Marlins set season highs in runs (18) and hits (19), highlighted by a fifth inning in which 10 consecutive batters reached base and eight straight scored. Dan Uggla finished 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs, and every starter scored at least once as Florida snapped a four-game losing skid.
Braves 14, Cardinals 4
ATLANTA -- The Braves won consecutive series for the first time since May and extended St. Louis' road woes. The Braves scored 10 runs off Jeff Suppan (6-5), knocking him out of the game in the fourth inning, to win for the second time in the three-game series.
