AMERICAN LEAGUE
Angels 14, Mariners 6
SEATTLE -- Juan Rivera homered twice and the Los Angeles Angels battered Seattle's bullpen. Rivera homered leading off the fifth and then hit a three-run shot in the ninth. It was Rivera's fourth multihomer game and he finished with five RBIs. The Angels rallied from a 5-1 deficit behind a seven-run sixth inning. CHICAGO -- Jose Contreras won his 17th straight decision and Juan Uribe hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs for the White Sox. Contreras (9-0) pitched 62/3 scoreless innings and allowed six hits and struck out three without a walk. He last loss came on Aug. 15 against the Twins. Paul Konerko added a three-run homer in the third inning. Uribe was 3-for-5, a triple short of the cycle.
Devil Rays 9, Red Sox 6
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay's Ty Wigginton homered for the third time in two games, connecting off Curt Schilling to snap a seventh-inning tie. Julio Lugo and Jonny Gomes also went deep for Tampa Bay, which hit three homers Monday night to beat Josh Beckett, Boston's other 10-game winner. Wigginton homered twice off Beckett, and his first-pitch homer leading off the seventh ended a personal five-game winning streak for Schilling (10-3), who allowed four runs and nine hits in seven innings.
Athletics 2, Tigers 1
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jay Payton lined a single to right with two outs in the 10th inning to score Bobby Crosby with the winning run and Oakland won its second straight over Detroit. Fernando Rodney (4-3) walked Crosby with one out, struck out Eric Chavez and then walked Frank Thomas to bring up Payton, who also drove in a run in the first. Oakland's Ron Flores walked Carlos Guillen to start the 10th, but Chad Gaudin (1-2) relieved and got two flyouts to right and a groundout. Detroit, on a nine-game road trip leading into the All-Star break that concludes with a three-game weekend series in Seattle, lost for third time in four games. Oakland starter Dan Haren allowed four hits and one run in seven innings. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter for the fifth time this season.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Astros 7, Cubs 2
HOUSTON -- Andy Pettitte pitched six effective innings and Mike Lamb drove in three runs for the Astros. Nationals 6, Marlins 4
WASHINGTON -- Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth to lift the Nationals to the win. It was Zimmerman's second game-winning homer in less than three weeks. He hit a two-run homer in the ninth to beat the New York Yankees 3-2 on June 18. The Nationals won their fourth straight, and the Marlins dropped their third in a row. Zimmerman hit a 2-2 pitch from Florida closer Joe Borowski (0-2) over the left-field fence with Robert Fick on second and All-Star Alfonso Soriano on first. He was mobbed by his teammates at home plate, and then came out for a curtain call.
