Council hopes for input at road project meeting

The proposed highway would connect the East Side to Bell-Wick Road.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will host a public involvement meeting to discuss the proposed Hubbard Arterial project and its impacts to Victory Field.
The meeting is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Victory Estates Community Center, 1501 Woodcrest Ave. Information about the Hubbard Arterial project will be presented, and representatives from the city, Ohio Department of Transportation and Eastgate will be available to answer questions.
Public comments also will be solicited.
Construction of the proposed Hubbard Arterial will affect the Victory Field property, but Eastgate said that the city and its park and recreation director have agreed that it won't significantly affect the park's functions.
New playground
Impacts to the park will be offset by construction of a new playground in the park's center that will be built with federal funds and cost local property owners no additional money.
Comments also may be sent by Aug. 13 to John R. Getchey, executive director, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, 5121 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown 44515.
The four-lane, $75 million Hubbard Arterial would connect Youngstown's East Side to Bell-Wick Road in Hubbard Township and onto Interstate 80. It includes a new alignment from U.S. Route 62 to I-80. The project is set for design in 2008.
