Bond set at $5,000 for suspect in crowd uproar
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Akron man charged with resisting arrest and inciting violence outside a Market Street bar had his arraignment Wednesday in municipal court.
Bond was set at $5,000 for Terance L. Chatman, 23, of Snowfall Road. Police who tried to disperse a large unruly crowd gathered at Market and Indianola Avenue, near the Red Room bar, said they verbally tried to break up several small fights early Tuesday with no success and had to resort to using pepper spray. A story in Wednesday's editions had an incorrect address for the crowd gathering.
Officers said Chatman, who they saw spit in a man's face and then try to get others to fight, was apprehended across the street from the bar.
During the arrest, one officer was dragged over a park-style bench and suffered a 5-inch gash on his left shin and knee.
