3 of event's leaders have ties to host neighborhood



YOUNGSTOWN -- This year's Smoky Hollow 5K Run and Family Fun Walk on Saturday will have special meaning for three of the event's honorary leaders, Denise DeBartolo York, Dominic Rosselli and Annie Gillam.
Rosselli, a former coach at Youngstown State University, grew up in the Smoky Hollow neighborhood, as did DeBartolo York's father. Gillam's husband, Youngstown Councilman Artis Gillam, also grew up in the hollow.
Sonya Williams, wife of Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams, also is an honorary chairperson.
The run will start at 9 a.m. and the walk at 9:10, both at Harrison Field in Smoky Hollow, adjacent to Youngstown State University.
An awards ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the MVR Restaurant on Walnut Street, where a complimentary post-race brunch will be held.
Last year, about 170 people participated in the Smoky Hollow run and walk.
Registration is $12 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. The first 300 registered entrants receive a T-shirt. Race day registration starts at 7:45 a.m. at Harrison Field, Walnut Street in Smoky Hollow behind Bliss Hall.

The run and walk are part of weekend events at and around YSU. The annual Forte on the Fifty celebration, featuring music and a fireworks, is scheduled for Friday in Stambaugh Stadium. The annual Summer Festival of the Arts will be held from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at YSU.
