Police search for man who faces charges
CAMPBELL -- Police seek a local man wanted on multiple charges after fleeing from authorities.
Erick L. Jackson, 41, of Jean Street was approached by officers around 11:14 p.m. Sunday for having two outstanding bench warrants for failure to comply with probation. Jackson fled before officers could confront him.
Police say he could face charges Wednesday of criminal damage, breaking and entering, obstructing justice and fleeing and eluding police.
Jackson entered a Monroe Street apartment through the front door, where a 38-year-old woman and her two children reside, police said. He did not know the woman and knocked the two children to the ground in attempt to flee upstairs.
Jackson knocked the woman over after she blocked his path, officials said, then fled through the same door he entered.
Second offense
About 3:27 a.m. Monday, Patrolman Kenneth Arendas observed a white Pontiac Transport driving recklessly on Penhale Avenue near 12th Street. It made a sudden turn onto Reed Avenue without signaling.
Arendas recognized the license plate of the van belonging to Jackson and continued to follow it through additional turns without stopping or signaling. As the vehicle approached Ensley Drive, Jackson opened the door and tried to jump out.
The van went over the curb into the front yard of a house on Hamilton Avenue, striking the corner of the house, Jackson fled to the woods, Arendas said. Two other people in the vehicle also fled. No one was caught, Arendas said; the van was impounded and towed.
Jackson has previous convictions for possession of drugs and permitting drug abuse.
