NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Scrappers' big rally sinks Auburn
Mahoning Valley scored four times in the third to even its record at 7-7.
AUBURN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers evened their series in Auburn Monday afternoon, defeating the Doubledays, 6-1.
Adam Davis led off the game with a triple to left center and scored on Andy Lytle's infield out to give Mahoning Valley a 1-0 lead.
The Scrappers exploded in the third with their biggest inning of the season.
A two-out walk to Davis started the rally, and five batters later four runs had scored on three hits. Lytle followed Davis with another walk, then Jared Goedert singled home Davis.
Matt McBride singled in Lytle, and Kelly Edmundson scored both Goedert and McBride with a double to right-center.
Another strong effort
Scrappers starter Josh Tomlin ran into a bases-loaded jam in the third, but allowed just one run. It was Tomlin's third outing of the year, and he allowed one run over three innings, and has allowed just two runs in his first 10 innings.
Luis Valdez, Chris Cooper, and Matt Meyer shut the door over the last six innings, combining to allow no runs and six hits with five strikeouts. Valdez (2-0) got the win.
Auburn starter Daniel O'Brien (0-3) allowed five runs in 22/3 innings.
The finale of the series and the Scrappers road trip is tonight at 7:05 p.m.
The teams will then come to Eastwood Field for a three-game series starting Wednesday.
Left-hander William Delage, a 14th round pick by Cleveland, will start tonight for the Scrappers (7-7).
