Man charged with alcohol, gun violations
BOARDMAN -- Police charged Duane Davis, 32, of Glenwood Avenue with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and aggravated trafficking, both felonies, and misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and using weapons while intoxicated.
Police saw two people in a car with its lights out pulling into a carport behind a Glenwood Avenue apartment early Sunday morning. When officers approached, they saw an open container of beer. A loaded handgun also was found on the floor in the back seat.
Police also found 10 suspected Valium pills that appeared packaged for sale.
Although Davis had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, it wasn't in a holster or a closed locked compartment as required by law, a police report said.
Davis' passenger was charged with a minor misdemeanor, accused of possessing a small amount of suspected marijuana.
Police gave Davis a breath test, which registered his blood alcohol content level above the .08 legal limit for driving. Davis was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
