July 3, 1956: Alfred Wilson, Trumbull County's triple murderer, is fatally wounded by Ohio Highway Patrolman Russell H. Duffy, as Wilson hid in a tree, armed with a Lugar pistol. Wilson had evaded numerous manhunts for 12 days after murdering two sisters of his common-law wife and a 16 year-old Leavittsburg girl. He told a brother-in-law shortly before he was shot that he didn't know why he killed the girl.
