Community band to perform at courthouse

MERCER, Pa. -- The Lawrence Community Band will perform a concert under director Michael Palladino at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Courthouse Square.
The band will perform a variety of music, from marches to hymns to classical. Polka musician Johnny Oakes will kick off the concert with a performance at 6:15 p.m.
A graduate of Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music, Oakes has recorded four solo albums, in addition to the Grammy Award-winning album "Wonderful World of Polka" with Walter Ostanec, who is known as Canada's Polka King. Oakes and his wife reside in Mercer.
Mercer Rotary Club will host an old-fashioned ice cream social throughout the evening and the Mercer Band Boosters will sell fresh popcorn.
Concertgoers are invited to bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Mercer High School auditorium, 545 W. Butler St.
